Jeff and Kim Hillyer, owners of J.D. Hillyer Trucking and Chubby’s Ironwerx and Kustom Trucks, converted a 2003 Kenworth semi from a truck they knew was “too short and ugly” into a full-size sleeper with all the amenities of home. In two weeks of working straight 20-hour days, they gutted the truck “from head to toe, inside and out,” Jeff says. They cut the truck in half with an ESAB PowerCut 650, welded in an additional three feet of new frame rail with an ESAB Migmaster 250, then added 14 feet of inner frame rail liner. They then reassembled the truck using all new chrome and interior and installed a 120-inch custom sleeper, complete with shower, toilet, refrigerator and microwave.
